Location : Middlesbrough College Main Campus, TS2 1AD

Department: Digital & Campus Services

Reporting to: Deputy Estates Manager

Salary: £14,565.31 per annum for first 12 months rising to national minimum wage for age

Annual Leave: 30 days per annum plus bank holidays

Contractual hours: 37 hours per week

Basis: Full time, Fixed Term 24 months

Pension: NEST Pension, subject to criteria

 

Join Our Team

We are looking for a motivated Apprentice to join our dedicated property maintenance team.  This is a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on experience while working towards your Level 2 Property Maintenance Operative qualification.

You will play a key role in helping to maintain our facilities.  You will learn a wide range of practical skills on the job, supported by an experienced team.  Your responsibilities will include routine maintenance and minor planned or responsive repairs across our busy estate.  You will develop skills in a variety of areas, including:

 

  • Carpentry
  • Joinery
  • Plumbing
  • Plastering
  • Brick and block work
  • External works
  • Tiling
  • Painting and decorating.

 

What You’ll Be Doing:

As a Property maintenance apprentice, you will:

  • Learn to interpret and use work plans, job sheets, specifications, and diagrams to carry out tasks, considering safety, quality, efficiency, and sustainability.
  • Under supervision, select and use appropriate tools, equipment, and materials for each task. Learn how to handle, store, and dispose of materials safely and responsibly.
  • Support the safe isolation of electrical and emergency systems to enable maintenance work and assist in identifying and reporting faults.
  • Assist in diagnosing and carrying out minor plumbing and drainage repairs, developing your problem-solving and technical skills.
  • Gain experience in preventative and corrective maintenance of water, environmental, and energy systems, following industry standards and regulations.
  • Learn basic carpentry and joinery techniques to repair or refurbish fixtures such as doors, windows, and worktops.
  • Support minor plastering tasks using appropriate materials and techniques to achieve a professional finish.

What We’re Looking For:

We seek candidates who:

  • Hold a Level 2 qualification in Maths & English.
  • Are willing to undertake and complete all qualifications as specified by the course.
  • Hold a Level 1 qualification in a related practical subject.
