We are delighted to announce an exciting opportunity for a dedicated Safety and Building Services Operative to join our Estates department. This role is vital in ensuring the safety and security of students, staff, and visitors across the college, while maintaining our facilities to the highest standards. As an integral part of our thriving academic community, you will contribute to a safe and well-maintained environment that supports learning and development.
The role will include a 3 week shift rotation (including evening & weekends) covering 7 days a week.
The shift systems of the role are currently:
06:00 – 14:30
08:00 – 16:30
13:00 – 21:30
1 weekend approximately every 8 weeks.
The role is a combination of security, porterage and building services duties.
What You’ll Be Doing:
As a Safety and Building Services Operative, you will:
- Deliver an efficient and effective estates service, including porterage, internal goods and post services, concierge support, fire evacuation procedures, cleaning, goods yard operations, minor maintenance and repairs, reprographics, and car parking management.
- Play an active role in the College Safety team, demonstrating a strong understanding of safeguarding responsibilities.
- Obtain and maintain Security Industry Association registration for door supervision and CCTV operation, including the provision of recorded images in compliance with relevant legislation.
- Embrace flexible working arrangements, including shift patterns, weekend cover, and participation in an emergency call-out rota.
- Provide support to colleagues within the Facilities Management Department as required, assisting with a range of tasks.
- Respond promptly and effectively to requests for assistance, ensuring a professional and appropriate approach in line with skills and responsibilities.
What We’re Looking For:
We seek candidates who:
- Hold or be willing to work towards appointed person First Aid status.
- Hold or be willing to work towards IOSH Working Safely (or equivalent).
- Hold a valid SIA badge (Frontline Door Supervisor / CCTV Operator) or be willing to work towards – Essential.
- Full, clean driving license – Desirable.
- Have a Grade 4/C or above in Maths and English or equivalent - Desirable.
