Join Our Team
We are seeking a compassionate and proactive Student Support Mentor to join our Inclusive Learning team. In this rewarding role, you will work closely with teaching staff to deliver tailored academic and wellbeing support to students with a variety of needs. This includes learners with formal diagnoses such as Dyslexia or ADHD, as well as those facing temporary challenges due to illness or personal circumstances. You will provide targeted interventions through one-to-one coaching, small group study sessions, and drop-in support surgeries, helping students overcome barriers to learning and stay on track with their studies. Your focus will be on ensuring every learner receives the support they need to maintain progress and achieve success by the end of the academic year

What You’ll Be Doing:
As a Student Support Mentor, you will:
- Work closely with the Curriculum area and have an input into identifying student needs, planning and implementing strategies, coaching and intervention to support student engagement, wellbeing and achievement.
- Plan and deliver a range of targeted interventions, utilising vocationally specific specialist knowledge from teaching staff where appropriate.
- Prioritise the High Needs students if and when required.
- Attend regular specific training & CPD delivered by the ALS Department in relation to the role.
- Attend ‘At Risk’ meetings, and other departmental meetings necessary, providing feedback and insight into the progress of students and success of intervention.
- Contribute and work alongside other staff within the department to ensure that the attendance, retention and achievement of the students with Additional Support Needs are monitored timely and accurately
- Work closely with the ALS Department in the identification of new support needs and prioritise needs based on the ALS Deployment Pyramid.
- Record all interventions facilitated and their impact via the systems and processes specific to the College and Department.
- Track the intent, implementation and impact of interventions via Digital Learning Logs and One Page Profiles.
What We’re Looking For
We seek candidates who have:
- An appropriate Level 2 qualification (or equivalent) in supporting students with learning difficulties/care, or a commitment to achieving this within an agreed timescale.
- Grade C or above in Maths and English (or equivalent).
- A willingness to undertake any mandatory training relevant to the role.
- Risk Assessment qualification – desirable.
- First Aid qualification – desirable
